How do you get from gross to net pay?
The gross salary in an employment agreement or payslip is not the amount deposited in your bank account.
Income tax, National Insurance, health insurance and your pension and study-fund contributions may be deducted. Tax credit points and certain tax benefits can reduce the income tax you pay.
The calculator combines these components and shows both estimated net pay and where the difference between gross and net goes. National Insurance and health-insurance rates use salary brackets, and tax figures are updated by tax year.
